The F-150’s ubiquity takes away some of its charm, but it still makes for a comfortable and capable truck. Our test model accelerated from zero to 60 in 5.8 seconds, which is fast for a full-size pickup. It also performed well on our road and track tests, where it was able to tow and haul without issue. The base STX SuperCrew starts at $106,950 before on-road costs, but moving up to Lariat adds a long list of equipment. It includes leather seats, a panoramic glass roof, and a power-sliding rear window. There’s also a powered tailgate, and a heated and cooled front seats. An upgraded 12-inch infotainment screen, wireless smartphone charging, and a surround-view monitor are other nice touches.

Ford’s Adaptive Cruise Control is standard across the F-150 range, along with blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors. The F-150 can also be fitted with lane-keep assist, hill-start assist, trailer sway control, and automatic emergency braking. On my test truck, the safety systems didn’t feel intrusive or overly sensitive.
With the four-by-two XLT, you get six different drive modes that can be selected depending on the conditions and terrain you’re facing. Upgrade to the Raptor or Tremor models and you can activate unique off-road settings such as rock crawl. Our XLT model also got decent fuel economy, with a combined rating of 20 mpg.
